1st Draft for my front cover

This is my 1st draft. I edited this image so that the contrast was darker but the colours more vibrant. I thought it brought more power to the image. I'm still experimenting with the title font.

Photo edits

More edits. This is a band called 'Art of Dying' that are in the post-grunge and alternative rock category.

This is the edit....

...and this was the original image..
This girl in the picture is 15 and looks like what my target audience should be like. Ideally i am aiming to design a magazine for 15-25 year olds so she just fits in this catagory. She wears dark clothes with skinny jeans. I feel this suites the music style i am  basing my magazine around as i have researched the genre styles. As i would also like this magazine to be aimed at males too she is not a 'girly girl' so would not put a male buyer off if i were to use her on the front cover of my magazine.

Photo Editing

This is the original image of the band Daughtry. This lesson has really helped in my editing techniques so i experimented with this image. It has given me some ideas for the front cover of my music magazine.
This is the edited image!

Why are these magazines called what they are?

MOJO- Has many different meanings from magic spells to charm and personal magnetism. This could suggest that the name of this magazine was chosen as the music genre magnetises the audience into the magazine as find it appealing.

NME- Stands for New Musical Express. Was created by Theodore Smythson and has been published every week since 1952. Started as a newspaper but moved in to a magazine format during the 1980s.

My Magazine Genre and Target Audience

Target Audience Definition-is a specific group of people within the target market at which a product or the marketing message of a product is aimed at.

For my music magazine  I have decided to cover post-grunge and alternative rock after having looked at NME magazine and MOJO magazine. My target audience will be between ages 15-25, as that is the audience that seems most affected by these styles of music. I will be including bands such as; Daughtry, Godsmack, Art of Dying, Goo Goo Dolls, Nickelback, Flightside and 30 Seconds To Mars.

MOJO Magazine Front Cover Deconstruction

MOJO is one of the music magazines I am looking at to learn from and gain inspiration from for when it comes to making my magazine. The front cover shows lots of different sized fonts including San serif to draw the reader in, along with a free CD of Pink Floyd which links in with the Classical Rock genre. The page is very busy and cluttered, which would help to convince the reader that they are getting a lot for their money as a lot of information is on the front telling you what's inside. It has three main colours; blue, white and red which are also manly colours which suggests that it is aimed at a male audience. There is one main image that is the lead singer of the ‘Foo Fighters’  and taken as a mid-shot, he is also looking at you so is a direct mode of address, which makes the buyer more involved.

NME– The Hypodermic needle effect is used here on the front cover as a quote;

“ We’ve always been radical, idealistic, subversive and naïve. People like that…”

This quote almost tells the viewer that ’this’ is what everyone likes so influences the viewer to like it also. The Hypodermic needle effect is also used with the style of clothing and the way the band on the front cover is. It is as though the audience has to look like the band they listen too and influences them to do so.
